The Work Number Database Surpasses 75 Million Records

ST. LOUIS, Apr 15, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- TALX Corporation (NASDAQ: TALX):

-- Lenders, social service agencies, and others needing fast

access to employment and income verifications can now access

more than 75 million employment records online at

www.theworknumber.com, a service of TALX.

TALX Corporation (NASDAQ: TALX) announced that its industry-leading service for automated employment verification, The Work Number(R), now provides access to more than 75 million employment records - more than double the number of records it made available just three years ago. A leading business process outsourcer of human resources and payroll services, TALX now manages compensation records - of both current and former employees - for about 1,000 employers, enabling instant answers to requests for information from lenders, pre-employment screeners, property managers and social services agencies.

"Adding new employers to the service has enabled us to significantly increase our collection of employment records," commented William W. Canfield, president and chief executive officer of TALX. "A record 212 new employers were added to The Work Number during its fiscal year ended March 31, 2003."

Employers whose records have recently been made available through the service include Coca-Cola Company and Ford Motor Company.

More than half of all Fortune 500 corporations, most federal government employers and many local employers such as state governments, school districts and hospitals have outsourced employment verification to TALX and therefore have their employment records managed by TALX. Employers whose records contribute to the 75 million include corporate leaders such as Boeing, Citigroup, General Electric and Home Depot.

TALX was the first company to automate employment verifications in the mid-1990s. At that time, the service was entirely telephone-based and verifiers accessed data through interactive voice response (IVR) systems. Today, The Work Number delivers most verifications online at www.theworknumber.com.

As the number of available employment records has increased steadily, so has the number of "verifiers" that access the data. TALX has established accounts with over 40,000 entities that regularly use The Work Number to receive verifications. These include about 6,000 social service agencies across all 50 states and over 30,000 commercial verifier accounts including mortgage industry leaders such as Wells Fargo, Countrywide Credit Industries, GMAC Mortgage, Quicken Loans and many others.
