TALX Enhances W-2 eXpress Service To Facilitate Faster Tax Refunds For 2003 Tax Season

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2003--TALX Corporation (NASDAQ: TALX), a leading business process outsourcer of payroll data-centric services, announced today that it has enhanced its W-2 eXpress(SM) service with functionality designed to bring faster tax refunds and free services to employees of participating companies.

Using W-2 eXpress, employers can provide printed and paperless original W-2 tax statements, W-2 reprints and W-2 corrections to their employees for filing tax returns and applying for loans. For tax year 2003, employees that consent to receive an original W-2 electronically in place of a printed W-2 will have the ability to obtain faster refunds and access to free services.

By choosing the paperless W-2 option, employees can obtain their original W-2 online, complete their taxes and file for a refund all before the paper W-2s are even printed. In addition, employees will have the ability to reset their password on-line, without having to contact their HR departments or customer service. This quicker and easier access to the W-2 can speed the tax refund process.

Additionally, employees that consent to receive their original W-2s on-line will gain free access to the electronic copy for the entire year. Even after the January 31st distribution deadline for paper W-2s, an employee who received a paper W-2 can consent to a paperless W-2 for the current tax year (and future tax years) and receive the same benefits as an employee who consented prior to the print deadline.

Last year, more than 5% of all eligible employees using W-2 eXpress -- and up to 40% of eligible employees at some employers -- opted to receive their original W-2s electronically rather than through the mail. "With these new enhancements, W-2 eXpress will be even more attractive to employees and employers alike," said Dave Fowler, director of product management for TALX. "We anticipate significant growth in the percentage of consenting employees going forward."

Employers using W-2 eXpress will benefit from this year's enhancements as more employees choose to receive their W-2s on-line. Higher employee participation rates in W-2 eXpress' paperless W-2 service lead to lower printing and postage costs as well as storage and retrieval costs for returned statements. The free services, offered both before and after the initial printing, are expected to help increase the number of employees that consent to paperless W-2s going forward.

In addition, employee acceptance of paperless W-2s opens the door for clients to adopt other paperless payroll services from TALX such as ePayroll Services for electronic pay statements and FasTime(R) services for electronic timesheets.
