TALX'S UC eXpress Business Line Expands Chaffin's Role

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2004--TALX Corporation (NASDAQ: TALX) said that Ed Chaffin, regional vice president for its midwest and southeast sales regions, will assume operational and financial responsibilities for its UC eXpress line of business. That unit's current president, Steve Hoffmann, will transition day-to-day responsibilities to Chaffin over the next 60 days and assume an advisory role for certain key product initiatives that will combine the features of UC eXpress with other TALX services.

Hoffmann joined TALX in conjunction with its 2002 acquisitions of The Frick Company and the unemployment cost management business of Gates McDonald. He headed the combined businesses as they became TALX's UC eXpress unit.

Chaffin's responsibilities at TALX have steadily increased in his nine years with the company. He has held key operational, sales and client service positions leading up to his promotion to regional vice president in 2003. He has 20 years of experience in the payroll and human resources market.

William W. Canfield, president and chief executive officer of TALX, said he anticipates a seamless transition for the company's unemployment cost management business, which is the market leader and the source of approximately 60 percent of TALX's revenues. "Steve developed a strong management team as he integrated and combined our unemployment cost management acquisitions. UC eXpress will benefit from that team's continued support for our growth and service goals in addition to Steve's involvement in certain new product initiatives. In addition, Ed is a proven TALX leader and one of the architects of our cross-selling emphasis, which gives him a solid understanding of UC eXpress and its market opportunities as he assumes these new responsibilities."
